The Fund delivered a net return of -0.8% in July, bringing its cumulative return since inception in January 2024 to 63.7%.
The Fund’s underlying holdings appreciated in value in their respective local currencies during the month. However, the meaningful appreciation of the Canadian Dollar, particularly against the U.S. Dollar, created a headwind to performance that more than offset the positive contribution from the underlying assets, resulting in a -0.8% return for July.
This largely reflects a partial reversal of the currency effect experienced in June, when the Canadian dollar depreciated against the U.S. dollar. As noted last month, while foreign exchange movements can have a meaningful impact on returns over shorter periods, these effects tend to balance out over the long term, with currency movements contributing positively in some periods and acting as a headwind in others.
