Withdrawals can take up to 5-7 business days from the time they are requested to the time the money arrives back in your bank account. We send your funds out in four business days but it can take an extra business day for your bank to post the funds to your account. It will take up to 3 business days to trade your portfolio, during which time the value of your account may change. Afterwards, there is a 2-day regulatory settlement period associated with selling the assets in your account on the market.
Please allow an additional day if there is a Canadian or US holiday during this period as this adds an extra day to the selling process.
You can always check the scheduled date and status of your withdrawal on the Withdrawals Page. If your withdrawal has disappeared from the withdrawals page, check your activities page to see if the funds have been sent out.
I set up a withdrawal and received a warning that my withdrawal may take longer than usual or recent deposits will not be sent out.
Deposits into Wealthsimple cannot be withdrawn until a five business day clearing period has passed. During this time your bank may reject the deposit and pull the funds back from your Wealthsimple account and so those funds cannot be sent out just yet.
What if the majority of the funds have been in my account for more than five business days?
If recent deposits make up only a small portion of your total account value (this often happens when you are depositing frequently with a pre-authorized payment) and you make a full withdrawal, we will subtract the recent deposit that has not cleared and send out the rest!
If you've found yourself in the scenario above and require the remainder of the funds, no worries! You will be able to initiate a new withdrawal once your recent deposit has cleared the five business day period.
What if the majority of the funds have been in my account for less than five business days?
If recent deposits make up a substantial portion of your total account value and cannot be sent out right away, we will hold the full withdrawal until the clearing period has passed and send the funds out after the five business day period has passed!
