When manually verifying your identity, you will be asked to submit 1-2 documents from the lists below. In order to upload your document, you can select Upload a document instead when going through the identity verification process. If you have trouble with this, please contact our support team and we can help you out further.
Before uploading a document to manually verify your identity, make sure that it is a document that can be accepted. We will require one document from two of the three categories. Below are the kinds of documents that we are able to accept, as well as the categories that they fit into —
Documents to verify your name and address
Acceptable documents
- Canadian Government-issued photo ID (e.g. Drivers License, Passport, ID Card)
- Utility Bill (e.g. electricity, water gas, telecommunications)
- Record of Employment (e.g. T4)
- Tax Documentation (e.g. CRA Notice of Assessment)
Considerations
- Must be issued by Canadian sources
- All pages of the document must be present
- Must be valid (no expired IDs)
- Must be dated within 6 months of the review date
- Acceptable formats: True PDF only. Exception with government-issued photo ID (can be a scan or photo).
Documents to verify your name and date of birth
Acceptable documents
- Canadian Government-issued photo ID (e.g. Drivers License, Passport, ID Card)
- Marriage certificate
Considerations
- Must be issued by Canadian sources
- Must be valid (no expired IDs)
- Must be dated within 6 months of the review date
- Acceptable formats: photocopy, scan, electronic image
Documents to verify your name and financial account
Acceptable documents
- Full bank statement
- Processed cheque
- Credit card statement
- Loan account statement
- Investment Account Statements (TFSA, RRSP, Non-registered)
Considerations
- Must be issued by Canadian sources
- All pages of the document must be present
- Must be valid (no expired IDs)
- Must be dated within 6 months of the review date
- Acceptable formats: True PDF only
