What is Bio Protocol?
Bio Protocol is a decentralized science (DeSci) platform designed to transform how biotechnology research is funded, governed, and shared. It enables the formation of BioDAOs, community-led organizations where scientists, patients, and investors pool resources to support biotech projects, particularly in underfunded or specialized areas. The protocol also facilitates the tokenization of intellectual property (IP), allowing research outputs such as data, patents, or tools to be represented as tradable or shareable assets. In addition, it incorporates milestone-based incentives and automated 'BioAgents' to streamline operations and reduce administrative overhead.
What is BIO?
The native token of the protocol is BIO, operating on the Ethereum blockchain. It serves as both a utility and governance token, used to facilitate decision-making, incentivize participation, and provide access to protocol services. Holders can stake BIO to gain governance rights and engage in protocol initiatives. The token has a fixed supply of 3.2 billion, and at the time of this publication, roughly 1.67 billion BIO is currently in circulation.
