What is Numeraire?
Launched in 2017, Numeraire (NMR) is the native token of Numerai, a hedge fund that leverages crowdsourced machine learning models to make stock market predictions. Numerai organizes data science tournaments in which participants submit models trained on anonymized financial data. To back their predictions, participants must stake NMR tokens, with rewards or penalties tied to model performance. Successful models earn additional NMR. This staking mechanism is designed to align incentives by rewarding accurate forecasts and discouraging low-quality submissions.
What is NMR?
NMR is the platform’s native token, built on the Ethereum blockchain. It is used for a variety of functions, including staking in tournaments and participating in governance. Token holders can use NMR to support their models in Numerai’s competitions and to vote on platform initiatives. The token has a capped supply of 11 million, with approximately 7.58 million in circulation at the time of this publication.
