What is SuperRare?
SuperRare is a decentralized digital art marketplace and social network built on the Ethereum blockchain, focused on supporting the creation, collection, and trading of unique, single-edition NFTs. It provides a platform for artists to tokenize and sell their digital works directly to collectors, with all transactions recorded on-chain for transparency and provenance. The marketplace operates through curated galleries and artist onboarding, aiming to balance quality control with community participation.
What is RARE?
The native token of the platform is RARE, which operates on the Ethereum blockchain. RARE serves as the governance and utility token within the SuperRare ecosystem. RARE holders can participate in decisions related to protocol upgrades, curation policies, and community grants through the SuperRare DAO. The token is also used to incentivize participation and align interests between artists, collectors, and the broader community. The token has a total supply of 1 billion units of RARE, with approximately 824.43 million RARE currently in circulation at the time of this publication.

Wealthsimple has performed an assessment of whether RARE can be supported by Wealthsimple’s platform, including whether RARE is a security and/or a derivative and is being offered in compliance with securities and derivatives laws.
We evaluated RARE based on publicly available information, including (but not limited to):

- The supply, demand, maturity, utility and liquidity of RARE;
- Material technical risks associated with RARE, including any code defects, security breaches and other threats concerning RARE and its supporting blockchain (such as the susceptibility to hacking and impact of forking), or the practices and protocols that apply to them;
- Legal and regulatory risks associated with RARE, including any pending, potential, or prior civil, regulatory, criminal, or enforcement action relating to the issuance, distribution, or use of RARE; and
- Statements made by regulators or securities regulatory authorities in Canada and other jurisdiction regarding whether RARE, or generally about whether the type of crypto asset, is a security and/or a derivative.
Wealthsimple monitors ongoing developments related to crypto assets available on its platform for significant changes that may affect Wealthsimple’s original assessment of those assets, including Wealthsimple’s assessment of the application of securities and derivatives laws. Any significant changes relating to RARE may result in changes to this Crypto Asset Statement and/or Wealthsimple’s ability to support RARE.
Like all other crypto assets, there are some general risks to investing in RARE. These include short history risk, volatility risk, liquidity risk, demand risk, forking risk, cryptography risk, regulatory risk, concentration risk, electronic trading risk and cyber security risk. Please review the Wealthsimple Crypto Product Risk Disclosure for additional discussion of general risks associated with the crypto assets made available through the platform.
