Below are common reasons that your cash card may be declined, as well as ways to fix them —
Choosing “Debit” instead of “Credit”
The Wealthsimple Cash Card is a prepaid Visa card. For this reason, when you use your card at a payment terminal, you will need to select “Credit”. The card uses the visa payments system and is accepted everywhere that Visa is accepted.
Your physical card is not activated yet
Once you receive your physical Cash Card in the mail, you will need to activate it first by calling +1 877-868-0854 and setting up your PIN. Once you have activated your card, you will also need to sync your PIN to your card. You can do this by making a purchase at a merchant or going to an ATM and performing a transaction using your card’s chip (tap will not work to sync your PIN).
Your available to spend balance is less than the amount of your transaction
In order to make a purchase with your Cash Card, you must first have enough funds in your Available to Spend balance. Before making a purchase, you must first make a deposit into your account, either through Instant deposit or standard deposit. Any deposit not made through the Instant deposit feature will need to settle for three business days before getting added to your Available to Spend balance.
