How do I lock in optimization results?

The optimizer tries to minimize your and your partner’s total tax bill (i.e., maximize your combined refund or minimize your combined balance). In many cases, there are several different combinations that will yield the same total result.

If you want to lock in a particular split before re-running the optimizer, click the grey lock icon to the right of the screen.

When you submit one person’s return the amounts get locked in automatically until the next person submits.
