We automatically calculate and include the number of dependant children (line 60969) and the number of dependants with a physical or mental infirmity (line 60970) for you.
If you are single, separated, divorced or widowed: follow the steps below to ensure your dependant has been included.
If you have a partner and your returns are linked: this credit will only be applied to the higher income spouse. If you and your partner have exactly the same income, it will appear once you optimize your return (click Check & Optimize in the Review section). Follow the steps below to ensure your dependant has been included.
If you have a partner and your returns aren’t linked: this credit will only appear if you are the higher income spouse and you have reported your partner’s income in the Your Partner section. Follow the steps below to ensure your dependant has been included.
Your child (under 18)
- For a dependant child, answer “Yes” to “Claim the Ontario amount for dependant children” in the Your Dependants section (find this under the Tax credits for your child heading).
- For the additional tax reduction that you may claim if this child has a mental or physical infirmity, indicate that this child has an infirmity or disability in the Your Dependants section.
- To override the number of claims we’ve calculated, follow the instructions below.
Your disabled partner
- Your disabled parter will be counted once you have confirmed that their T2201 is on file on your account with the CRA; follow the steps outlined here.
Someone else
- When you indicate this person has an infirmity or disability in the Your Dependants section we’ll add them to your tax reduction claim.
- To override the number of claims we’ve calculated, follow the instructions below.
Override
- If you would rather override the amount we have calculated, add the Ontario Tax Reduction (Line 60970) Override section using the search box. This override section will only work if you otherwise qualify for the tax reduction.
