When you first sign up for a Spend (Cash) account, we will ask you to verify your identity. This helps us follow FINTRAC identity verification rules, along with industry best practices.
If you are a student and you don’t verify your identity, you can still use your Spend (Cash) account. However, the features available on an unverified account are limited. Below are features available to unverified and verified accounts —

Instant funding | Only eligible through Visa debit funding | Eligible for both Visa debit funding and instant deposits up to $250 |
Cash Card | Unavailable | Available |
Note: If you are not a student, you must verify your identity to use any of the Spend (Cash) features.
Check your verification status
You can check your verification status by following these steps —
- Log into your Cash mobile app
- Select the Wallet balance at the top left-hand corner
- Tap the Gear icon in the top left-hand corner
- Select the Profile menu item
- Under Verification you will see your verification status (either verified or unverified)
Verify your identity after you sign-up
If you didn't verify your identity when you first signed up and want to do so now, follow these steps —
- Log into your Cash mobile app
- Select the Wallet balance at the top left-hand corner
- Tap the Gear icon in the top left-hand corner
- Select the Profile menu item
- Tap Verification
- Follow the prompts on-screen to verify your identity
Once these steps are complete, you will gain full access to all features of your Spend (Cash) account.
