Overview
This article applies to the Wealthsimple Referral Bonus Promotion 2026 and previous iterations of the referral program.
The Rewards Centre is the hub for special offers from Wealthsimple. From this page, you can check current offers, track your progress for eligible offers, select your reward for eligible offers, and refer a friend to Wealthsimple for a cash bonus.
If you're unsure whether a referral relationship has been established on your account, or if a referral code has been successfully applied, you can verify its status directly from the Rewards Centre. The steps below cover how to confirm your referral from both the referee and referrer sides, and what to do if something doesn't look right.
A referrer is the existing Wealthsimple client who shares their referral code with a friend. A referee is the person who uses that code to open and fund a brand-new account at Wealthsimple to qualify.
The referee must deposit a minimum of $100 from an external source within 30 days of entering their referral code.
Eligible accounts
To qualify for the referral bonus, the referee must fund one of the following account types:
- Self-directed investing
- Crypto
- Managed investing
- Chequing
Qualifying funding
Qualifying funding refers to deposits made from an external bank account or institution into an eligible Wealthsimple account. To trigger the referral bonus, the referee must deposit a minimum of $100 from an outside financial institution into one of the eligible account types listed above within their 30-day funding period.
Eligible external funding methods include:
- Deposits from your bank account
- Transfers from other investment institutions
- Crypto transfers from external wallets
Ineligible funding
The following don't count toward the $100 minimum requirement:
- Peer-to-peer (P2P) transfers within Wealthsimple
- Internal transfers between your own Wealthsimple accounts
- Wealthsimple-issued bonuses or promotional credits
- GRSP contributions or group transfers
- Deposits or transfers from affiliates of Wealthsimple
Bonus payout
Both the referrer and referee receive a $25 base bonus, deposited to their respective Wealthsimple chequing accounts within 24 hours after the referee's first eligible deposit. As of July 3, 2025, bonuses are automatically applied to chequing accounts — both clients must have an open Wealthsimple chequing account to receive their bonus.
Referrers may also receive an additional bonus based on how much their referee deposits during the 30-day funding period. This additional bonus is paid out up to 14 business days after the funding period ends, or after all funds have settled, whichever date is later.
There's no limit to the number of people you can refer, but you'll only receive one bonus per unique successful referral person for your account.
Referee
If no referrer is linked to your account
You can check whether a referral code has been applied to your account from the Invite friends tab. The quickest way to tell: If you see the option to enter a referral code, no referrer is currently linked to your account. If that option isn't there, a code has already been applied — see the section below for what to expect.
- Log in to the Wealthsimple app
- Tap the gift icon in the top right corner of the Home page
- Tap the Invite friends tab
- Tap Enter referral code
- Enter your referrer's 6-digit code
- You'll see a confirmation page stating "Referral code applied" if successful
- Log in to your Wealthsimple profile
- Select the gift icon at the bottom left of the Home page
- If no referral code is attached to your account, you'll see a prompt that reads "Got a referral code? Enter it here."
- Input your referrer's code and submit to have the referral applied to your account
- You'll see a confirmation page stating "Referral code applied" if successful

What if I entered the wrong referral code?
A referral relationship can only be updated if you haven't yet funded your account, and it has been more than 30 days since the incorrect code was entered. After this point, you'll be able to enter a new referral code.
If a $25 base bonus has already been paid out as a result of the existing referral relationship, the relationship cannot be changed. If you need help with this, please contact our support team.
What if I already funded before entering a referral code?
If you funded a promotion account for the first time within 7 days prior to entering the referral code, your funding period is backdated to 7 days before the code was entered and lasts 30 days from the date the referral relationship was established.
If your first funding occurred outside of this 7-day window, please contact our support team to have a referral relationship established manually.
If a referrer is already linked to your account
If a referral code has already been applied, the Enter referral code option won't appear. Instead, you'll be able to see details about your referral directly from the Invite friends tab.

- You'll see the name of the person who referred you and the base bonus amount you received
- Log in to your Wealthsimple profile
- Select the gift icon at the bottom left of the Home page
- Select See referral history
- You'll see the name of the person who referred you and the base bonus amount you received
Referrer
To check whether your referee has been linked
As a referrer, you can verify whether a friend has successfully applied your referral code by checking your referral history. If their name doesn't appear, it's likely the code hasn't been entered on their end yet.
- Log in to the Wealthsimple app
- Tap the gift icon in the top right corner of the Home page
- Tap the Invite friends tab
- Scroll to the bottom of the page to view your Total earned and Friends invited
- Tap Referral history
- Log in to your Wealthsimple profile
- Click the gift icon at the bottom left of the Home page
- Select See referral history in the referral section
- You'll be able to see your Total earned and Friends invited
If you don't see your friend's first name, share the steps in the Referee section with them to complete on their account.
Frequently asked questions
I forgot to enter my friend's referral code. Is it too late?
You can still apply a referral code up to 7 days after you first fund your account. Tap the gift icon at the top of the Home page, navigate to the Invite friends tab, and enter your friend's 6-digit referral code. If it has been more than 7 days since your first deposit, please contact our support team for assistance.
When will I receive my referral bonus?
The $25 base bonus is deposited into your active chequing account within 24 hours after the referee's first eligible deposit. If you're the referrer, any additional bonus based on your referee's total deposits is paid out up to 14 business days after the 30-day funding period ends, or after all funds have settled — whichever date is later.
I entered the wrong referral code. Can I change it?
A referral relationship can only be updated if you haven't yet funded your account, and it has been more than 30 days since the incorrect code was entered. After this point, you'll be able to enter a new referral code. Please contact our support team if you need help.
My referee funded their account — why haven't I received my additional bonus yet?
Your additional bonus is calculated based on your referee's total deposits over their full 30-day funding period. The payout is issued up to 14 business days after that period ends, or after all funds have settled, whichever is later. If you believe you should've received an additional bonus and this timeframe has passed, please contact our support team.
Does an internal transfer count toward the $100 minimum?
No. To trigger the referral bonus, the $100 minimum must come from an external bank account. Internal transfers between Wealthsimple accounts, peer-to-peer transfers, Wealthsimple-issued bonuses, and group transactions don't qualify.
Is there a limit to how many friends I can refer?
There's no limit to the number of people you can refer. However, you'll only receive one bonus per unique successful referral person referring your account.
My bonus was deposited into a registered account instead of my chequing account. Can this be reversed?
As of July 3, 2025, referral bonuses are automatically deposited into chequing accounts. We're unable to reverse a bonus that has already been applied to a registered account, but you're welcome to transfer the funds to another account once they're available. Please note that bonuses deposited into registered accounts, such as an RRSP or TFSA, may be reported to the CRA as a contribution. If you have questions about the tax implications, we recommend speaking with a personal tax advisor.
