Overview
If you're transferring an account with USD cash or dual-listed securities, review the information below.
Note: We don't currently support USD accounts for RRIFs and LIFs, and currency conversion fees apply.
Transfers with USD cash
After your institutional transfer is complete, we'll automatically deposit USD assets and cash into your designated Wealthsimple account. We deposit USD cash as-is and won’t convert it to CAD.
If you haven’t opted into or subscribed to USD accounts:
- You’ll incur FX fees when you use USD funds for trading.
- Your available to trade balance includes your USD funds. To access these funds, you can:
Note: If you're a Premium or Generation client, you can opt-in to USD accounts for free. If you're a Core tier client, you can subscribe to USD accounts for a monthly fee of $10.
Transfers with dual-listed securities
Wealthsimple doesn’t support dual-listed securities. We’ll prioritize the denomination (US or Canadian) depending on which one was listed first:
- Canadian: If the security was listed on a Canadian exchange before or at the same time as on a US exchange, Wealthsimple will prioritize the Canadian option.
- US: If the security was listed on a US exchange before being listed on a Canadian exchange, Wealthsimple will support the US option.
To check if we support a specific asset, search for its name or symbol in your Wealthsimple mobile app or website.
