Overview
You can generally trade shares sold in an Initial Public Offering (IPO) on Wealthsimple once the company begins publicly trading.
Note: Wealthsimple doesn't support the ability to directly participate in a company's IPO. You can only buy shares in the company when the shares become available to trade on the public market.
IPO share availability
Share availability depends on if the company IPOs in Canada or the United States (US):
- IPOs in Canada: Shares will generally appear shortly after they begin publicly trading.
- IPOs in the US: Shares will generally appear during the day the company IPOs.
Note: Any shares sold in an IPO won't appear on Wealthsimple until after they become available for public trading. It may take several hours for shares to appear.
IPO listing requirements
A company might not be available on its IPO day if it doesn't meet our trading eligibility criteria.
