There is only a tax credit for rent in certain provinces:
-
If you live in Ontario, search for “rent” in the search box and select the Ontario Trillium Benefit section. Claim any relevant credits and report your rent in that section.
-
If you live in Manitoba, indicate that you qualify for the Manitoba Education Property Tax Credit in the About You section. Find this under the Manitoba Tax Credits heading.
-
If you live in an eligible dwelling in Québec you may be entitled to the Solidarity Tax Credit. Report the amount from your RL-31 in the Solidarity Tax Credit section.
You may also claim your rent if you are self-employed or if you are allowed to claim employment expenses (i.e., you have a signed T2200 from your employer). In this case, enter your rent as an “Other Expense” where you claim your use-of-home expenses.
