NETFILE is closed until February 24th, which means you won't be able to save a PDF copy of your unsubmitted return(s).
If you're looking for a PDF copy of a successfully submitted return from a prior year, you can access it by clicking Account in the top right corner of your Wealthsimple Tax profile, selecting My Tax Returns and then clicking the Download button next to the relevant return.
In Wealthsimple Tax, you can save two types of PDF copies of your tax return: one for mailing to the CRA and another for your records. Here's how to access both:
Ensure your tax profile is complete and error-free
- Go to the Review & Optimize section
- Click the Review & Optimize button
- Fix any errors in your profile (and your partner's, if linked)
- Click Review & Optimize again
Saving a PDF copy to mail to the CRA
- Navigate to the Submit section
- Click the Print tax return button
- This generates a condensed PDF with a barcode, preferred by the CRA for mailed returns
- The PDF will be saved to your default download folder (usually Downloads)
- Open the file to view and print for mailing
Saving a PDF copy for record-keeping
- In the Submit section, click the Save PDF button
- This creates a comprehensive PDF including the complete T1, Schedule 1, and all applicable forms
- The PDF will be saved to your default download folder (usually Downloads)
- Open the file to view or save it securely
Important notes:
- Both buttons appear only when your profile is complete and error-free
- For linked profiles, both should be complete before saving PDFs
- The full PDF (Save PDF) includes information not transmitted via NETFILE
- You can access PDFs of your previous year's tax returns in Wealthsimple Tax
Remember:
- Keep copies of your tax returns for at least six years
- Store PDFs in a secure location on your device or cloud storage
- Use the condensed version (Print tax return) for mailing to the CRA
- Use the full version (Save PDF) for your personal records
