The fastest way to check the status of your return or refund is through your CRA My Account. You can find your most recent tax return status on the Overview page.

You can see more details by clicking Go to Tax returns. If you click this link, make sure you’re looking at the correct row. The CRA My Account system also displays the status of your current year's return.

You can also check by phone with the CRA, or you can see if you’ve successfully submitted your return using Wealthsimple Tax.

When to expect your refund from the CRA

The average processing time for a return depends on how you submitted it:

• For an online return: about two weeks. 
• For a paper (mailed) return: about eight weeks

If you submitted your return online and signed up for direct deposit, your refund may arrive in your bank account in as little as eight days. If you didn't sign up for direct deposit, it can take four to six weeks for your cheque to arrive.

The average processing time for a return depends on how you submitted it:

• For an online return: about 14 business days
• For a paper (mailed) return: about 4-6 weeks
