Set up a third-party contribution for an RESP

Wealthsimple can accept contributions to an RESP from a third party. A contribution from a third party is defined as occasional gifts or aid from family friends, god-parents, grandparents, relatives, neighbour's, non-profit organizations, etc. in a beneficiary’s name.

Note: If the completed form does not match the information on the cheque that we receive for you, you may be asked to complete this form again.

Once complete, the contributor can make a cheque payable (and recurring payments) to our back office Wealthsimple Investments Inc., with the beneficiary's name and account number as a note. We can only accept cheques for this type of contribution.

Tip: A beneficiary's account number can be found by following the steps below on the account holder’s profile:

Log in to your Wealthsimple account.
Select the Profile icon in the top right corner.
Choose Documents from the menu.
Under Filters, select the Account filter menu.
Select your RESP account.
Open your account statement to view your account number. It will start with a W or an H.

Please note, physical cheques cannot be accepted for deposits into accounts offered by Wealthsimple Payments Inc. this includes Wealthsimple Cash accounts.
