Unstaking Polkadot

You can decide to unbond (unstake) DOT at any time. However, please note that there is an unbonding period, which serves as a cooldown, during which you will not receive rewards. You will be able to make your tokens transferable after this time has passed. Unstaking DOT takes 30 days. This includes the 28 day unbonding period and 2 days for Wealthsimple to complete the unstaking process.

Considerations when unstaking your DOT:

• Unstaking will take 30 days.
  Unstaking requests are processed on-chain on the Polkadot network, the current timeline is 30 days which includes 2 days for Wealthsimple to complete the unstaking process. The timeline is variable, depending on how many others are unstaking on the network.

• You can’t cancel your unstaked request.
  Once you submit an unstaking request, it won’t be possible to cancel the request. During the unstaking process, you won’t be able to trade, transfer or stake any DOT included in the request.

• You will not earn rewards while your DOT is being unstaked.
  After submitting an unstaking request, your staked DOT will not earn new rewards during the unstaking process. Note, we will send you a notification when the process is complete.

After reading the considerations, you can unstake your DOT by following these steps:

1. Log in to the Wealthsimple mobile app
2. Tap the Home tab at the bottom of your screen
3. Select your Crypto account
4. Under Staking Rewards, choose the DOT rewards section
5. Select Unstake at the bottom.
6. Read through the DOT Unstaking information provided and tap Confirm
7. Choose the amount of DOT you would like to unstake and tap Confirm. You can only unstake assets that are already staked
8. We will send an email and app notification when the unstaking process is completed
