Once you've filed your tax return, wait for the CRA to assess it before making changes. Most returns are assessed within a few days of filing.
Check if your return has been assessed:
- Use CRA My Account: Look at the top of the Overview page
- Without CRA My Account: Wait for your Notice of Assessment in the mail
Use ReFILE
ReFILE is available to amend returns for the current tax year and up to three previous years.
- Make changes to your return in Wealthsimple Tax
- Review & Optimize your return and clear any errors
- In the Submit section, click ReFILE tax return
- Review your changes and submit your amended return
- If successful, you'll see a new confirmation number and message from the CRA
- After you submit your changes, you may have an amount owing. If so, you’ll need to make a payment to the CRA.
- You can confirm your changes and payment by checking your CRA My Account.
For Québec residents: Repeat the process for your Québec return in the Submit Québec Tax Return section.
Common ReFILE errors:
- TUD00010 or 602: The CRA won't accept these changes through ReFILE. Try using your CRA My Account or mail a T1 Adjustment Request.
- TUD00013 or 603: Your return may not be assessed yet. Try again in a few days if no other exclusions apply
Use CRA My Account
If you can't use ReFILE, change your return online with CRA My Account:
- Log in to CRA My Account
- Click on Tax Returns
- Click on Change my return in the left menu (below direct deposit information)
- Follow the prompts on the CRA's portal:
- Review ineligible changes and click Start
- Select the year to change and click Next
- Search for line numbers to adjust
- Enter changed amounts (use decimals only if shown in CRA My Account)
- Make all changes before clicking Next
- Provide additional information if required and click Next
- Review the line updates, certify that your entries are accurate and click Submit
- Confirm changes and payment in your CRA My Account
Submit a paper T1 Adjustment Request
If ReFILE and CRA My Account aren't options:
- Complete a T1 Adjustment Request form with your changes
- Transcribe the changes from the Show differences table in your Wealthsimple Tax profile onto the T1 Adjustment Request
- Mail the form and supporting documents to your tax center (address on page 2 of the form)
