When reporting your Canada Pension Plan (CPP) benefits on your T4A(P) slip, you may need to enter $0 in certain boxes even if they're blank on your physical slip. Here's what you need to know:
Why enter $0:
- The CRA requires an amount in box 14 (CPP/QPP benefits) and box 16 (CPP/QPP disability benefits) of your T4A(P), even if the amount is zero
- This ensures your return is processed correctly and avoids potential errors or delays
How to report in Wealthsimple Tax:
- Add the Canada Pension Plan/Québec Pension Plan Benefits section to your profile
- Enter the information as it appears on your physical slip
- If box 14 or 16 is blank on your slip, enter 0 in the corresponding box in Wealthsimple Tax
Important notes:
- Always enter information exactly as it appears on your slip, except for blank boxes 14 and 16
- If you received CPP benefits, at least one of these boxes should have an amount
- Entering 0 when a box is blank helps prevent processing errors with the CRA
Remember:
- Keep your T4A(P) slip and all tax documents for your records
- If you're unsure about the amounts on your slip, compare them with your CRA My Account information
