Wealthsimple Tax can auto-fill part of your return with information directly from the CRA, making your tax filing process easier and more accurate.
Before you start:
- Ensure you have a Wealthsimple Tax account.
- Have an active CRA My Account.
- Confirm that all of your tax slips are available in your CRA profile. Tax slips not yet available won't be imported.
- Complete these mandatory fields in the About You section of your profile:
- Social Insurance Number (SIN)
- Date of Birth
- Province of Residence
Note: While other fields in the About You section are required to complete your return, they are not necessary to trigger the Auto-fill feature.
Steps to use Auto-fill:
- Log in to your Wealthsimple account
- Click on the Tax tab in the top menu
- Select the relevant tax year and profile
- Once in your chosen profile, navigate to the Auto-fill & add forms section
- Click the Import forms button
- Agree to the terms and conditions
- Click Authorize with CRA My Account
- Log in to your CRA My Account in the pop-up window
- If the pop-up doesn't appear, ensure pop-ups are enabled in your browser
- Click Next to confirm you want to retrieve your tax information
- Wait for the data to be retrieved (this may take a few minutes)
- Close the CRA window and return to Wealthsimple Tax
- Review the list of available slips to auto-fill
- Select the slips you want to add (or click Select All)
- Click the Import button to populate your return
Important notes:
- If you're preparing a tax return for someone else (such as a family member or friend), you must be authorized as their representative to use Auto-fill my return on their behalf.
- For new users starting their tax profile, you'll be prompted to auto-fill during the initial interview process.
- If switching from another financial institution to Wealthsimple, you must switch partners before using Wealthsimple for your Interac sign-in partner.
- Please contact the CRA for support if you can't access your CRA account.
