Why is my tradesperson (or apprentice mechanic) tools deduction $0?

You probably have not:

  1. spent enough on eligible tools, or
  2. earned enough employment income.

To qualify for the tradesperson deduction, you must have both spent at least $1,222 on eligible tools and earned at least $1,222 in related employment income (2019 amounts).

To qualify for the apprentice mechanic tools tax credit, you must have spent at least $501 on eligible tools.
