Overview
You can add a login for your child's kids and teens account any time after it's opened, either by inviting them to set up their own login or by creating one for them. Once they're logged in, your child can view their balance, activity, and card details from the Wealthsimple app or at wealthsimple.com, though moving money is only available in the app.
Setting up your child's login
You're not required to set up a login for your child when you open their account. By default, no login is created, and the account works with just you managing it.
Whenever you're ready, you can add a login for your child from their account dashboard, using one of two options:
- Invite [child] to Wealthsimple: sends your child an email invite so they can set up their own login on their own device. Best if they have their own email and device.
- Create a login for them: you set your child's email and password directly. Works well for younger children without their own device.
Only the primary parent can set up or send a login invite.
Logging in as a child
If you created your child's login, they log in the same way you do: enter their email and password in the app, then enter the 6-digit code sent to their email.
If you invited your child instead, they'll get an email invite to join your account. Once they accept, they set up their own login on their own device.
Viewing the account on web
Your child can log in to wealthsimple.com to view their account, even without the app. Here's what's available where:

Downloading the app for your child
The Wealthsimple app has a 13+ age rating in the Apple App Store and is rated E for Everyone in the Google Play Store. If your child can't download the app on their own, you can approve it for them using Apple's Ask to Buy feature through Family Sharing.
Your child can also view their account on wealthsimple.com without downloading the app; they'll just need the app to spend or move money.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need to set up a login for my child when I open their account?
No. You're not required to set up a login for your child during account opening. You can finish opening the account and set up a login for them later, whenever you're ready.
How do I set up a login for my child after I've already opened their account?
You can do this any time from your child's account dashboard. Choose Invite [child] to Wealthsimple to send them an email invite so they can set up their own login, or Create a login for them to set their email and password yourself.
What's the difference between inviting my child and creating a login for them?
Invite [child] to Wealthsimple sends your child an email invite so they can set up their own login on their own device; this is best if they have their own email and device. Create a login for them lets you set their email and password directly, which works well for younger children without their own device.
Can I move money for my child from the web browser?
No. The web account is for viewing information only. Your child can't add money, send money, or make transfers from wealthsimple.com; those actions are only available in the app.
What happens if the email I use to invite my child is already linked to a Wealthsimple account?
You'll see a message letting you know that email is already tied to a profile, and you'll need to contact us for help.
If my child's login was already set up before this update, does anything change?
No. If your child's login was already set up, nothing changes.
