Slashing risk with Ethereum
It's important to understand slashing risk when you stake ethereum. Slashing is a penalty for dishonest validator behavior that results in losing some or all of your staked assets and any rewards.
If a supported ethereum validator is slashed, Wealthsimple Crypto isn't obligated to replace any lost ETH or provide compensation for losses. The negative impact of slashing will be allocated to all clients using the staking functionality at the time of the slashing event, in proportion to the amount of ETH they had staked.
We perform thorough due diligence on our partner validators to ensure they have sophisticated staking operations that ensure uptime, mitigate risks, and provide seamless access to clients if they don't want to stake independently.
