Overview
Wealthsimple Tax offers three plans: Basic, Plus, and Pro. All plans use the same tax-filing software. Plus and Pro add more support and services, and each plan has a limit on the number of returns you can file for a tax year.

Plans apply to one tax year
Your plan applies only to the tax year you select when you choose or buy it. For example, a Plus plan for the 2024 tax year doesn't cover returns for the 2025 tax year. You'll need to choose a plan for each tax year you file.
Before you buy or upgrade a plan, make sure you're working in the tax profile for the tax year you're filing for.
Return limits apply to your account
The return limit is the total number of returns you can file through your Wealthsimple Tax account for a tax year. Returns for your spouse or family members count toward the same limit. For example, Basic includes up to two returns in total.
Frequently asked questions
Why am I being asked to choose or pay for a plan again?
Tax plans are specific to a tax year. If you bought a plan for one tax year and then open a return for another year, you'll be asked to choose a plan for that year too. A plan for a previous tax year won't apply to your current year's return.
Before you pay, check that you've opened the correct tax year profile and review the plan shown for that year.
Do unused returns carry over to the next tax year?
No. Plans and their return limits apply to one tax year only, so unused returns don't carry over. You'll need to choose a plan for each tax year.
Do I need to pay again to amend my return with ReFILE?
No, you don't need to pay again to use ReFILE. Learn how to change a return after submission.
Why do I see more than one Wealthsimple Tax payment?
Before assuming a charge is a duplicate, check which tax year each plan payment applies to and how many returns you've submitted for that year. Plans apply to one tax year, so you may need to choose a plan again if you're filing for a different year.
To check your submitted returns on a computer:
- Log in to your Wealthsimple profile
- Click the Profile menu in the bottom-left corner
- Click Tax
- Choose your tax profile
- Go to Documents
- Click My Tax returns
- Review each tax year and count the returns submitted for that year
You may also see a payment prompt if you've used all the returns included in your plan. For example, Basic includes up to two returns. If you've already submitted two returns for the 2025 tax year and need to submit another, you'll need to upgrade to Plus. To upgrade, open your tax profile and click Upgrade in the top-right corner. If you already paid for Basic for that same tax year, you'll be asked to pay the difference.
If you've checked the tax year and return count and still think you were charged twice, contact our support team so we can review the charges.
