Overview
The Dividends section on any dividend-paying stock or ETF's detail page helps you track the dividends you earn on your investments. It shows:
- Payment details like the ex-dividend date and expected payment date.
- The frequency of payments.
- The security's 12-month yield, based on the dividends it paid over the past 12 months.
This helps you understand when you'll receive your money and gives you key information about the security's dividends.
You can also check whether you're eligible for a dividend payment from your Activity feed.
How to view dividend details
You can see the dividend information directly on the security's detail page by following the steps below:
- Log in to the Wealthsimple app
- Tap your desired trading account
- Tap an investment that pays dividends
- Scroll down to the Dividends section
- Log in to your Wealthsimple profile

In this section, you'll see key information:
- Frequency: How often the dividend is typically paid, such as monthly or quarterly.
- 12-month yield: The dividends paid over the past 12 months as a percentage of the most recent closing price (also known as the 12-month trailing yield).
- Ex-dividend date: The date the stock starts trading without its next dividend. To receive the dividend, you need to buy the shares before this date. If the company hasn't set a date yet, you'll see Announcement pending.
- Expected payment date: The approximate date you can expect the dividend to arrive in your account.

Eligibility rules
To receive a dividend payment, here's what you need to know about buying and selling your shares:
- Buying: Your shares need to be settled in your account by the ex-dividend date. Trades take 1 business day to settle, so you need to buy at least 1 business day before the ex-dividend date.
- Selling: You can sell your shares on the ex-dividend date and still receive the dividend.
Understand your dividend payout currency
Your dividend payout currency depends on your account type and the currency the stock trades in.
- If you hold the stock in a CAD account, dividends are always paid in CAD. If a dividend is declared in USD, it's converted to CAD. You can read more about foreign exchange fees and dividends.
- If you hold the stock in a USD account, dividends are paid in the currency the stock trades in: CAD for Canadian-listed stocks and USD for US-listed stocks.
You can't choose a different payout currency; it's set by your account type and where the stock trades.
