If you're a Québec resident with childcare expenses, you'll need to report your RL-24 information. Here's how to do it in Wealthsimple Tax:
- Navigate to the Personal Information section in your profile
- In the You and Your Family subsection, answer "Yes" to the question "Do you have any dependants?"
- In the Your Dependants section:
- Enter your child's information
- Answer "Yes" to the question "Did you have child care expenses for your child?"
-
In the childcare expenses table, enter the following from your RL-24:
- Box H: Identification number of the childcare provider
- Box D: Childcare expenses that do not qualify for the tax credit
- Box C: Total childcare expenses paid
Special situations:
- Expenses eligible for federal credit but not Québec tax credit:
- Enter your total childcare expenses in the "Federal eligible expense" column
- Leave Box H and Box D blank
- Enter 0 in Box C
- Childcare expenses incurred outside of Québec:
- Enter your total childcare expenses in the "Federal eligible expense" column
- Leave Box H and Box D blank
- Enter 0 in Box C
Important notes:
- The Québec childcare tax credit is different from the federal childcare deduction
- Keep your RL-24 slip and any related documents for your records
- Wealthsimple Tax will automatically calculate your eligible credits based on the information you provide
Remember:
- Accurately reporting your childcare expenses ensures you receive the correct tax credits
- If you have multiple children or childcare providers, you may need to enter information for each separately
If you're unsure about how to report your childcare expenses or have a complex situation, consider consulting with a tax expert. If you need assistance entering this information in Wealthsimple Tax, please contact Wealthsimple support.
