Overview
A wire transfer is an alternative method to add Canadian Dollar (CAD) funds or US Dollar (USD) to your accounts at Wealthsimple. After we receive your wire, there’s a 5 business day holding period before funds are available.
We accept first party CAD wire transfers into all accounts except crypto accounts.
CAD wires from a third party can only be accepted in an RRSP, RESP or Cash account. Learn more about third party CAD wires.
We accept first party USD wire transfers as-is into select accounts listed below:
- Self-directed investing TFSA
- Self-directed investing RRSP
- Self-directed investing FHSA
- Self-directed investing Personal, non-registered
First party USD wires going into any other account types will be automatically converted into CAD.
USD wires from a third party can only be accepted in an RRSP or RESP account. Learn more about third party USD wires.

Transfer timeline
Most wire transfers take up to 3 business days to process after the wire has been received. If additional verification is required by your bank, your transfer could take up to 5 business days to process.
If the wire is processed successfully, you can expect your account balance to update within 5 business days. Once the wire is posted to your account, the activity will be available in your next monthly statement.
