Why didn't my dividends reinvest automatically?
There are a few reasons why your dividends might not have been automatically reinvested. Here are some of the most common ones:
- Insufficient cash: You need enough cash in your account to cover the cost of the additional shares.
- Order quantity: The order quantity must be at least 0.0001 shares.
- Account status: You must own shares of the stock or ETF at the time of receiving dividends, and the security can't be pending a limit sell. The account must also be active (not archived or suspended).
- Security eligibility: The security must be eligible for fractional trading and trading in general.
- Currency mismatch: Dividends must land in an account that matches their currency (CAD dividends in a CAD account, USD dividends in a USD account). This can happen during USD account upgrades.
- Technical issues: Occasionally, technical issues may prevent us from processing the reinvestment.
