Add a bank account
You’ll need to link a chequing or savings bank account before you can make a deposit into your account.
You have two options for linking a bank account to your Wealthsimple profile –
- Automatic linking. We'll use Plaid to securely request your online banking information.
- Manual linking. We'll ask you to manually enter your banking information and provide a supporting bank document.
- US-dollar accounts
- Corporate or business accounts (unless it is being used to fund a managed corporate account)
- Investment accounts (e.g. TFSAs, RRSPs)
- Line of credit or credit card accounts
- External crypto wallets (however you can deposit some coins or tokens from an external wallet)
- Accounts you do not own (i.e. you cannot link a family member's bank account unless your name is also listed as an owner)
Automatic linking
When linking your bank account automatically, we will ask you to sign in to your bank via Plaid. Plaid is a secure service that verifies your bank account information, and is the quickest way to safely link your bank account to your profile.
- Sign into the Trade app on your mobile device
- Tap the Move tab at the bottom of the screen
- Select Manage bank accounts
- Choose to Add a bank account
- Find your institution, and follow the prompts on-screen to finish linking the account
- Log in to your Invest mobile app
- Select Move Funds from the menu bar at the bottom of your screen
- Choose Add or move funds. You will be prompted to enter an amount that you wish to add from your new bank account, as well as which account you wish to deposit these funds into.
- Once you have selected your amount and destination, you will see the option to Add a bank account under the From this account section
- Find your institution, and follow the prompts on-screen to finish linking the account
- Log in to your Cash mobile app
- Select the Wallet balance icon in the top left-hand corner
- Choose the Gear at the top left-hand corner
- Tap the Profile menu item
- Select Manage bank accounts and then Add a bank account
- Find your institution, and follow the prompts on-screen to finish linking the account
Trade & Crypto
- Head to my.wealthsimple.com and sign into your Trade & Crypto profile
- Select the Move funds tab
- Choose Add a bank account from the drop-down menu
- Find your institution, and follow the prompts on-screen to finish linking the account
Invest & Save
- Head to my.wealthsimple.com and sign into your Invest & Save profile
- Select your name in the top right-hand corner
- Choose Settings from the drop-down menu
- Navigate to the Banks & Apps tab
- Under Bank accounts, you will see the option to Add a bank account
- Find your institution, and follow the prompts on-screen to finish linking the account
Manual Linking
If you can’t find your institution, or would rather not sign in through Plaid, you can link your bank account manually. You'll need the following information before you can manually link your account —
- Institution Number (3 digits)
- Transit Number (5 digits)
- Account Number (7-11 digits)
You’ll also need to upload a bank document with your full name, full account number, and institution logo. You can upload one of the following:
- Void cheque
- A full bank statement in PDF format
- Sign into the Trade app on your mobile device
- Tap the Move tab at the bottom of the screen
- Select Manage bank accounts
- Choose to Add a bank account
- Select your institution, and then click the X in the top right-hand corner of the popup
- You will now see the option to Connect bank manually
- Follow the on-screen prompts to complete this process
- Log in to your Invest mobile app
- Select Move Funds from the menu bar at the bottom of your screen
- Choose Add or move funds. You will be prompted to enter an amount that you wish to add from your new bank account, as well as which account you wish to deposit these funds into.
- Once you have selected your amount and destination, you will see the option to Add a bank account under the From this account section
- Select your institution, and then click the X in the top right-hand corner of the popup
- You will now see the option to Connect bank manually
- Follow the on-screen prompts to complete this process
- Log in to your Cash mobile app

Trade & Crypto
- Head to my.wealthsimple.com and sign into your Trade & Crypto profile
- Select the Move funds tab
- Choose Add a bank account from the drop-down menu
- Click into your institution, and then click the X in the top right-hand corner of the popup
- You will now see the option to Add account manually
- Follow the on-screen prompts to complete this process
Invest & Save
- Head to my.wealthsimple.com and sign into your Invest & Save profile
- Select your name in the top right-hand corner
- Choose Settings from the drop-down menu
- Navigate to the Banks & Apps tab
- Choose Add a bank account
- Select your institution, and then click the X in the top right-hand corner of the popup
- You will now see the option to Add account manually
- Follow the on-screen prompts to complete this process
Note: With manual linking, our team manually reviews your banking details. For this reason, it can take between 1-3 business days before your banking details are approved and we’re able to process pending deposits.
Remove a bank account
You can remove a bank account from your profile by following the steps below —
- Sign into the Trade app on your mobile device
- Tap the Move tab at the bottom of the screen
- Choose Manage bank accounts
- Select the bank account you'd like to remove
- Tap Unlink account
- Log in to your Cash mobile app
- Select the Wallet balance icon in the top left-hand corner
- Choose the Gear at the top left-hand corner
- Tap the Profile menu item
- Select Manage bank accounts
- Select the bank account you wish to remove, and then choose Unlink this account
- Head to my.wealthsimple.com and sign into your Invest & Save profile
- Select your name in the top right-hand corner
- Choose Settings from the drop-down menu
- Navigate to the Banks & Apps tab
- Here, you will see your linked bank accounts and the option to Remove account
Removing your bank account is not available in the Invest app, or on your Trade & Crypto web account.
