Overview

Learn how to update your Wealthsimple profile password if you've forgotten it, and how to choose a strong one. You'll also learn how to update your quick access method (an alternative way to sign in to the Wealthsimple app, such as using a fingerprint or a four-digit code, instead of your email address and password).

Update your password

If you forgot your password and can't sign in to Wealthsimple, you can request a password reset email. You'll need to log out of your account before you can reset your password.

To update your password, follow these steps:

  1. Open the Wealthsimple app
  2. Tap Log in
  3. Tap Forgot password?
  4. Enter the email associated with your Wealthsimple profile
  5. Select Continue
  6. We'll send an email to your email address with instructions for resetting your password
  1. Go to your Wealthsimple profile on a laptop or computer
  2. Select Log in
  3. Under the password field, select Forgot password?
  4. Enter the email associated with your Wealthsimple account
  5. Select Continue
  6. We'll send an email to your email address with instructions for resetting your password
Note: When resetting your password, we may send you a verification code to confirm it's you. This code may come from a sender called Verify. This is Wealthsimple's verified sender profile, and the message is legitimate.

You must also wait 48 hours before you can send an Interac e-Transfer® or make a crypto withdrawal after you change your password.

Choose a strong password

When you create or update your Wealthsimple password:

  • Use at least 10 characters. Longer is stronger: aim for 12 or more characters with a mix of uppercase and lowercase letters, numbers, and symbols.
  • Make it unique to Wealthsimple. Don't reuse a password from another account, including your email.
  • Avoid personal details like your name, birthday, or address, and common patterns like "password123".
  • Use a password manager to create and store it. If you change your password, update it in your password manager too.
  • Don't use a password that has ever appeared in a data breach.
Tip: For the strongest protection, set up a passkey. You'll log in with your face, fingerprint, or PIN instead of a password, and it can't be phished.

Update your quick access method

Wealthsimple's quick access methods let you log in to your account through our app without entering your email address and password each time. You can update these settings in the Wealthsimple app.

To update your quick access method, follow these steps:

  1. Log in to the Wealthsimple app
  2. Tap the Profile (person) icon in the top-right corner
  3. Tap the Settings (gear) icon in the top-right corner
  4. Choose the Login and security menu item
  5. Select Quick access method and choose the method of your choice
Note: If you want to update your four-digit passcode, toggle the quick access method to Don't require authentication, and then back to Passcode. This will prompt you to enter a new passcode.
