Overview
A passkey is a simpler, safer way to sign in to your account without using a password that uses your device's biometrics (face or fingerprint) or PIN to log you in. Unlike traditional passwords, passkeys are uniquely tied to your personal device and Wealthsimple.
Using a passkey provides:
- Enhanced security: Passkeys are domain-bound, meaning they won't work on fake or fraudulent websites
- Faster login: You don't need to remember a password or wait for a 2FA code
- Convenience: You can use the same biometric features you already use to unlock your phone
Eligibility
- You must use a device and browser that supports passkeys. Older devices and browser versions may not be compatible
- You must use SMS or an authenticator app as your 2FA method to set up a passkey. If you're currently using email 2FA, you'll need to upgrade your 2FA method first

Frequently asked questions
Will I be notified if a passkey is added or removed?
Yes, you'll receive an email and message confirmation whenever a passkey is added to or removed from your account.
Can I still use 2FA when logging in with a passkey?
This isn't possible at the moment, but we're planning to add this option in the future.
What happens if I lose my device?
If you've set up passkeys on multiple devices, you can use another one to sign in and remove the passkey from the lost device. If you don't have another passkey-enabled device, you can still sign in using your password and 2FA or through account recovery.
Why am I being asked to use a phone or tablet when setting up a passkey on the web?
This can happen if your browser or device doesn't fully support passkeys yet. Try updating your browser and device to the latest versions, then restart your browser and try again.
How many passkeys can I set up?
You can set up up to five passkeys on your account. If you’d like to add a new passkey after reaching this limit, you’ll need to remove one of your existing passkeys first.
