Overview
A trusted device is a phone your Wealthsimple account recognizes as yours. When you enrol a device, it creates a unique proof of identity that can't be copied or moved to another device. Once you've enrolled a trusted device, we'll ask you to approve any logins to your account from a web browser we don't recognize, adding an extra layer of protection against unauthorized access.
Set up a trusted device
You can enrol up to five trusted devices through your security settings in the Wealthsimple app on your phone.
Follow these steps to set up a trusted device:
- Log in to the Wealthsimple app
- Tap the profile icon in the top right corner
- Tap the Settings (gear) icon in the top right corner
- Tap Security
- Tap Trusted devices
- Tap Get started and follow the prompts to verify your identity with two-factor authentication
Approving a login from a new device
Once you've enrolled a trusted device, logging in to your Wealthsimple profile on a web browser we don't recognize will send a push notification to one of your trusted devices. You'll need to approve the login from that device before you can access your account.
To approve a login:
- Open the push notification on your trusted device
- Review the login details
- Tap Approve or Deny
Manage your trusted devices
You can view and remove your trusted devices at any time.
Follow these steps to remove a trusted device:
- Log in to the Wealthsimple app
- Tap the profile icon in the top right corner
- Tap the Settings (gear) icon in the top right corner
- Tap Security
- Tap Trusted devices
- Tap on the delete icon beside the device you want to remove, then tap Confirm
- Confirm using two-factor authentication
Known limitations
- App approval not required yet: Logging in to the Wealthsimple app sends a notification, but doesn't require approval yet.

Frequently asked questions
Why do I need to approve a login from a new device?
If we don't recognize the device you're logging in from, we send a request to your trusted device to approve or deny it. This helps stop someone else from accessing your account, even if they have your password.
Does having a trusted device replace my password or two-factor authentication?
No, a trusted device works alongside your existing login credentials and two-factor authentication.
Why didn't I need to approve a login on my phone?
Right now, approval is only required for new logins from a web browser. Logins from the Wealthsimple app will notify you, but don't require approval yet.
Can I remove a trusted device from my account?
Yes, you can view and remove your trusted devices at any time from your Wealthsimple app settings.
Is a trusted device the same as a trusted place?
No. A trusted place is a location, like your home, where you won't need to enter verification codes for certain actions. A trusted device is a phone that approves logins from devices we don't recognize. You can set up both for extra protection.
