This article applies only if you immigrated to Canada during the tax year.
If you became a resident of Canada during the tax year:
- You cannot claim the Canada Workers Benefit (CWB) for that year
The CWB is only available to individuals who were residents of Canada for the entire year
Important: If you received CWB advance payments:
- You must report these payments on your tax return
- Include the total amount of advance payments you received in the appropriate section
Remember:
- Report all your taxable Canadian income
- Claim only the deductions and credits you're eligible for
- Keep all documents related to your move to Canada and your income
If you're unsure about preparing your return as a newcomer, we recommend you consult with a tax expert. They can help you navigate your first Canadian tax return and ensure you're claiming all eligible credits and deductions.
