Overview
Spend insights helps you view, categorize, and analyze your spending in the Wealthsimple app. You can review your transactions, see spending trends, and categorize your transactions.
Eligibility
- You'll need a Wealthsimple Visa Infinite* credit card or a chequing account.
- You need access to the Spend tab in the Wealthsimple app.
- If you're part of a household, you can switch between a personal view and a household view.
- Transaction data is available back to January 2025. You won't see spending history from before this date.
Use spend insights
You can access spend tracking directly through the Spend tab in your app.
View your spending analytics
Follow the steps below to view your spending analytics:
- Log in to the Wealthsimple app.
- Tap the Spend tab at the top of the screen.
- Tap spent this month or the graph to open the spend tracking dashboard.
- Toggle between Trends or Categories.
Categorize or edit a transaction
Follow the steps below to categorize or edit a transaction:
- Log in to the Wealthsimple app.
- Tap the Spend tab at the top of the screen.
- Tap spent this month to open the spend tracking dashboard.
- Review the transactions under the chart or navigate to the Transactions page.
- Select the specific transaction you want to edit.
- Customize your transaction details by updating the Merchant, Category, Tags, or Note, or toggle off Include in spend total to hide it from your analysis.
Filter your transactions
Follow the steps below to filter your transactions:
- Log in to the Wealthsimple app.
- Tap the Spend tab at the top of the screen.
- Tap spent this month to open the spend tracking dashboard.
- Tap Transactions.
- Tap the Filter icon in the top right corner of the transactions screen.
- Filter by Owner (for household accounts), Sort, Range, Merchant, Category, Tags, or Account.
- Tap Apply.
Household spend insights
If you've connected your account to a household, you can choose to include your partner's activity for a combined view of your finances.
- Visibility settings: You maintain control over which of your accounts are shared with your household member.
- Toggling views: You can switch between a personal view and a household view to see individual or combined spending.

Frequently asked questions
What accounts are included in my spend tracking?
Spend tracking includes transactions from your Wealthsimple chequing accounts, prepaid cards, credit cards, bill payments, and pre-authorized debits. If you're in a household, you'll also see your partner's insights if the account is shared in household visibility. Interac e-Transfer®, P2P, and wire transactions aren't included in spend tracking.
Why are some of my transactions categorized incorrectly?
You can manually update any incorrect categories. Our technology automatically categorizes your transactions and gets smarter over time.
Can I hide transactions from my analysis?
Yes. You can hide transactions while still keeping a record of them. Hidden transactions will have a visual indicator in your list showing they aren't included in calculations. If you hide a transaction in a shared account, your household partner can still see it.
