Overview
You can get a prepaid Visa Platinum card for your personal chequing account in one step. You can choose a virtual card only, or a physical card, which comes with a virtual card. Use your virtual card to shop online or with your digital wallet, and your physical card for in-person purchases.
Keep in mind that each of your personal chequing accounts comes with a card number automatically associated with it that you can use to spend with your digital wallet. You can also use your card number to make purchases online.
How to get a card
If you don't have a card for your chequing account yet, you can get a virtual card, or a physical and virtual card together, from your account settings.
- Log in to your Wealthsimple app
- Tap your personal chequing account
- Tap Settings (gear icon) at the top-right of your screen
- Tap Get a card
- Follow the prompts on-screen to choose your card and get your prepaid Visa card
- Log in to your Wealthsimple profile on a computer or laptop
- Select your personal chequing account
- Select the gear button
- Select Account settings
- Select Get a card
- Select Get a physical & virtual card or Get a virtual card only
- Confirm your details
Your virtual card is issued right away and ready to use. You can add your Wealthsimple prepaid Visa Platinum card to your digital wallet to start spending right away. If you chose a physical card, it'll arrive by mail within 20 business days, and you'll need to activate it when it arrives.
Add a physical card to your virtual card
If you already have a virtual card only, you can add a physical card at any time.
- Log in to your Wealthsimple app
- Tap your personal chequing account
- Tap Settings (gear icon) at the top-right of your screen
- Tap Request a physical card
- Follow the prompts on-screen to request your physical prepaid Visa card
- Log in to your Wealthsimple profile on a computer or laptop
- Select your personal chequing account
- Select the gear button
- Select Account settings
- Select Add a physical card
- Confirm or change your shipping address when prompted, and we'll send your physical card
You can expect to receive your physical prepaid Visa card within 20 business days. Once you receive it in the mail, you'll need to activate it.

Can I get a Wealthsimple prepaid Visa card for my joint chequing account?
Each account holder on a joint chequing account gets their own prepaid Visa card number, with the option to each request a physical card.
How do I tell my prepaid Visa cards apart if I have one for each chequing account?
Since each prepaid Visa card is linked to only one chequing account, you can check the last four digits of the physical card with the card details in your chequing account:
- Log in to your Wealthsimple app
- Tap your chequing account
- Tap the card image
- Compare the last four digits of both cards to confirm which card is linked to the chequing account
