You may encounter three types of errors when submitting your return to the CRA:
Information mismatch
If you receive this error:
- Check your Social Insurance Number and birthday for accuracy
- For first-time filers, ensure your name matches your SIN letter or card exactly
- If you're an immigrant, verify your date of entry to Canada
- Confirm you answered the first-time filing question correctly in the About You and Personal information sections
If your NETFILE account gets locked, you'll need to mail your return this year.
Submission problem
If you see "There was a problem submitting your return":
- Wait a few hours
- Try submitting again
This error usually means the CRA's servers are busy.
Error codes and descriptions
If you receive a different error:
- Note the error code and description
- Email us with this information for assistance
To prevent errors:
- Double-check all personal information
- Ensure all required fields are complete
- Review your return for accuracy before submission
