Overview
Some stock, ETF, and crypto ticker symbols on X (formerly Twitter) — like $AAPL or $SPY — now appear as tappable links called Smart Cashtags. Wealthsimple sponsors these links for Canadian users, so tapping a ticker can open Wealthsimple directly. This works similarly to a sponsored link or ad on any other platform, using standard deep linking to open Wealthsimple.
Wealthsimple doesn't share your personal information or account data with X. Tapping a cashtag is like clicking any other link on the internet — any activity after that, like signing in or trading, happens entirely within Wealthsimple.
How it works
When you tap a Smart Cashtag on X, you're brought to Wealthsimple. If you have the Wealthsimple app installed, we'll shortcut you directly to the security you tapped on. If you don't, you'll see a special offer page for new sign-ups. Opening an account is completely optional.
No new permissions are granted, and no data is shared with X. Everything is handled on Wealthsimple's side.
Frequently asked questions
What happens when I tap a Smart Cashtag on X?
If you're an existing Wealthsimple client with the Wealthsimple app installed and you're signed in, tapping a Smart Cashtag takes you directly to that security's detail page in the app — ready to trade. If you don't have an account, you'll be taken to a sign-up page.
What securities can I access through Smart Cashtags?
Any supported stock ticker that appears as a Smart Cashtag on X can link you to that security's detail page in the Wealthsimple app. This includes stocks and ETFs available on Wealthsimple.
Do I need to set anything up?
No setup is needed. If you have the Wealthsimple app installed and you're signed in, tapping a Smart Cashtag on X will take you directly to that security's page — no extra steps or permissions required.
Can I use this to research a stock before trading?
Yes. Tapping a Smart Cashtag takes you to the security's detail page in Wealthsimple, where you can view price information, charts, and other details before deciding whether to trade.
Is there a sign-up bonus for new clients?
Yes. New clients who sign up through a Smart Cashtag on X and make a qualifying first deposit (as little as $1) are eligible for a $42 cash bonus. You can also take advantage of the ongoing (Un)real Deal promotion, which matches 3% of eligible assets transferred into qualifying accounts.
Can I trade directly inside X?
No. X is just the entry point. Tapping a ticker simply removes the friction of opening a new app and searching for the stock yourself. All trading and account activity happens entirely within Wealthsimple.
Does X have access to my Wealthsimple account or personal data?
No. X doesn't have access to your Wealthsimple account, personal information, or client data — including your holdings, balances, activity, or name.
Tapping a cashtag is like clicking a link on any ad or affiliate. Once you click it, you're immediately brought to Wealthsimple, where everything after that — signing in, trading, managing your account — happens entirely within Wealthsimple.
Does Wealthsimple share my data with X?
No. Your personal information and account data stay with Wealthsimple.
Like most links, basic information such as whether a link was tapped may be used for attribution and analytics. This doesn't include any of your Wealthsimple account data.
Do I have to use this?
No. This feature is completely optional. If you don't want to open Wealthsimple from a ticker on X, simply don't tap it. Nothing changes for your account if you don't use it.
Can I turn this off?
There's nothing to turn off on Wealthsimple's side. Smart Cashtags are a feature on X that turns ticker text into tappable links. This only applies if you tap a cashtag on X. If you don't use it, your experience with Wealthsimple stays exactly the same.
