Close an account

If you wish to close an individual account on your Wealthsimple profile, follow the instructions below to learn how:

Close an investment account

If you no longer need one of your investment accounts, you can close it directly through your Wealthsimple profile. Investment accounts include managed accounts, trading accounts, and Save accounts.

Tip: Before closing an account, make sure to do the following: 

Once your account balance is $0, you can close your investing account on either desktop or mobile:

Close a self-directed trading account

  1. Sign in to the Wealthsimple app on your mobile device
  2. Tap the Profile icon tab at the top-right of the screen
  3. Choose Accounts from the menu
  4. Select the account you wish to close from your list of opened accounts
  5. Scroll to the bottom
  6. Tap Close this account
  7. This will bring up a confirmation screen for you to confirm if you'd like to close your account
 

Close a managed account

  1. Log into my.wealthsimple.com and sign in to your Managed Investment & Save profile
  2. Scroll down on the main portfolio page and select the account you wish to close
  3. Click the three dots next to Fund this account on the top right.
  4. Click Close Account
  5. Confirm by selecting Close this account

Note: If you are using the web on a mobile device, the three dots will not appear. Instead, after selecting your account, scroll down and tap Or, close this account.

Note: If your account was not fully opened, or if you never funded your account, you will need to reach out to our support team to have it closed for you. 

Close a Cash account

If you wish to close your Cash account, please reach out to us directly and we can assist you with this.

Tip: If your account is funded, please withdraw your funds before requesting your account to be closed. We will only be able to close your account once all funds have been withdrawn from your account.

Close a Tax profile

If you wish to close a Tax profile, follow the steps below:

Web Mobile app

  1. Log into my.wealthsimple.com and sign in to your Tax profile
  2. Click Account at the top right-hand corner of the screen
  3. Choose the My tax returns menu item
  4. Find the profile you wish to delete, and click the three dots next to it
  5. Choose Delete profile to delete your profile
  1. Sign into the Tax mobile app
  2. Tap the three lines in the top left-hand corner of the screen
  3. Choose Account and then My tax returns
  4. Find the profile you wish to delete, and click the three dots next to it
  5. Choose Delete profile to delete your profile
Note: Be very sure you’re deleting the correct profile as there is no undo.
