If your child's other parent (not your current partner) receives the Canada Child Benefit (CCB), here's what you need to know when using Wealthsimple Tax:
- Ignore CCB references:
- Disregard any calculated CCB benefit shown in the Summary section
- You will not receive this amount
- Reporting your children:
- Still report your children as dependants in your tax return
- This ensures you receive other applicable credits and deductions
- No impact on current CCB recipient:
- Using Wealthsimple Tax will not change who receives the CCB
- The current recipient will continue to receive the benefit
Important notes:
- Wealthsimple Tax doesn't know that someone else receives the CCB for your child(ren)
- The calculated CCB amount is for information purposes only
- Your tax return does not determine CCB eligibility or recipient
Remember:
- Keep your child's information up to date in your tax return
- If your situation changes, update your information with the CRA separately from your tax return
If you have questions about your eligibility for child-related benefits or credits, consider consulting the CRA's child and family benefits page. For assistance entering dependant information in Wealthsimple Tax, please contact Wealthsimple support.
