To transfer your child's unused disability amount to your tax return in Wealthsimple Tax:
- Add the Your Dependants section to your tax profile
- In the Your Dependants section:
- Enter your child's information
- Indicate that your child has an infirmity or disability
- Under the Disability, infirmity, and caregiver amount heading:
- Indicate that your child qualifies for the disability amount
- Select that you will transfer their unused amount to your return
- If your child doesn't file a tax return:
- After entering all information for your child including your child's taxable income, click the Calculate button
- Review the warning box that appears and click on the I understand button
- Wealthsimple Tax will automatically add the available transfer amount to your return
- If your child must file a return:
- Complete your child's return first
- In your child's profile, navigate to the Disability Amount section
- Note the unused amount available for transfer
- Switch back to your profile and enter this amount
Important notes:
- Ensure all information about your child's disability status is accurate
- The transferable amount may depend on other credits claimed on your child's return
Remember:
- Keep all relevant documentation supporting the disability claim
- You can only transfer the unused portion of your child's disability amount
