You may claim the amount for an eligible dependant if you were single, separated, divorced, or widowed on December 31st of the tax year. This claim is limited to one dependant, even if you have multiple eligible dependants.
An eligible dependant can be your:
- Child, grandchild, brother, or sister (by blood, marriage, common-law partnership, or adoption) who is:
- Under 18 years of age, or
- Has an impairment in physical or mental functions
- Parent or grandparent (by blood, marriage, common-law partnership, or adoption)
Remember:
- You can only claim this amount for one dependant
- The dependant must meet specific criteria set by the CRA

- Enter the required information for your chosen dependant
