Overview
Due to the ongoing Canada Post strike, please expect delivery delays for:
- Physical cards (prepaid and credit cards)
- Financial documents (statements, account letters, and more)
- Account transfer cheques
We’re sending funds electronically, wherever possible, and we’ve secured alternative couriers for our physical products. However, these couriers may face delays due to factors beyond our control.
Rest assured, any items held up due to the strike will be routed to you as soon as possible.
We’re working hard to minimize delays to your transfers and physical items during the Canada Post strike. We appreciate your patience and understanding during this time.
Please visit the Canada Post website for updates: Canada Post strike negotiation updates.
How the strike impacts account transfers
Promotion eligibility
If you registered for one of our promotions and started a transfer during the promotion period, any account transfer delays caused by the strike won’t affect your eligibility for the promotion.
Transfers into Wealthsimple
We’re seeing specific delays because many of Canada’s biggest financial institutions are sending client funds via mail instead of electronic methods like A$M and ATON.
- We’re working to remind financial institutions of the Canadian Investment Regulatory Organizations’ (CIRO) new guidance requiring investment firms to offer alternative delivery methods during the Canada Post strike
- We encourage you to contact your institution and ask them to send funds to Wealthsimple electronically or via courier instead of Canada Post
Transferring accounts out of Wealthsimple
- We’re sending funds electronically (A$M and ATON) to any institution that can receive transfers this way
- For institutions that can’t receive funds electronically, we’re sending funds via cheque using couriers
How the strike may impact receiving other mail
If we sent products before September 26th, Canada Post may be holding your product in transit or delaying its delivery.
PO box addresses
While the Canada Post strike is ongoing, you can update your mailing address to prevent future mail from going to a PO Box by following these steps. Otherwise, we’ll send all mail currently in transit once the Canada Post service disruption is resolved.
When to expect a new or replacement card
If you requested your card after September 24th, service interruptions shouldn’t impact it.
You can still use your virtual card to access your funds, even if your physical card is on its way. For more information, please see these articles on using your virtual Wealthsimple prepaid Mastercard and adding your virtual Wealthsimple prepaid Mastercard to a phone wallet.
If you need a replacement, your card number and other details may change. Please reach out to our support team, and we'll send you a new one.
Bank drafts, chequebooks, and expedited mail
We’re now shipping all bank drafts, chequebooks, and expedited mail requests (documents, new, and replacement cards) using alternative shipping methods. You shouldn’t experience any delays for these items from Wealthsimple.
